The Alley Pond Environmental Center
The Alley Pond Environmental Center was founded in 1972 by a group of educators concerned over the lack of suitable provisions for environmental education in the public school curriculum. Since that time, the Center has, in cooperation with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, become a living-learning laboratory for tens of thousands of children and adults. In 1979 APEC was designated a National Environmental Study Area.
